For this project, LBi, an agency based in Edinburgh, were looking to create a hot, sexy, slick Cuban dance scene for their client Kuoni. The challenge was to recreate Cuba, in our beloved and notoriously grey – not to mention cold – Glasgow (on a budget).
I formed a team and we set to work on transforming the awesome Whiskey Bond in to an old abandoned Cuban warehouse – the place our dancers were going to rehearse.
It was brilliant to work with a new bunch of people. I teamed up with cameraman Simon Vickery, on LBI’s recommendation. Simon was fantastic and set the tone and mood in seconds with clever lighting and some atmospheric haze.
Editor and graphics man Pete Fullarton came in on the edit, along with musician Stu Brown who created the soundtrack to the film. We worked with two brilliant dancers, Romina Vessella and Eliecer Reyes who teach dancing in Edinburgh (Latin Explosion).
It was an awesome project to work on and I enjoyed directing and producing very much (there was very little to do since the dancers were so good!)
Hopefully we’ll work as a team again sometime soon.
