Myth: Stop Motion takes forever!

 
 

When chatting to clients, inevitably steering them towards stop-motion animation, they usually have some concerns and doubts: “It’s going to take ages, and it’s going to cost an arm and a leg, though?” Interestingly, my stop-motion projects have not been the ones with the big budgets - quite the opposite. They have certainly been the most effective in conveying the message and emotion. If you’re thinking years of production and big budgets, you might be thinking of claymation —- the likes of Chicken Run, Wallace and Gromit or Coraline. Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas required over 200 characters and sets, and it took around a week to produce a minute of animation (with around 23059273 crew too…) So when I suggest stop-motion, I’m usually thinking about object animation, which is often created using objects that aren’t made of clay. One of my favourite animators and film makers was Jan Svankmajer, who created a mass of amazing content
